Thanks for that, I think a week is a bit ambitious.

If the V5 did get sent to his address would that be a problem if we already had the car, surely it would be in his interest to put our name on the car as soon as possible as if we were caught parking illegally or speeding he would be responsible as the registered keeper.

Tell the seller to put the private plate on retention and then once the new plate has been issued for the car and he has the new V5 in his hand, then do the deal, not before.

Anything could happen to the car while you are being messed about.

begining to sound to me like he is trying to get out of the sale as more and more 'problems' are cropping up,probably because the car didnt make reserve

Thanks hartcjhart, we had thought of this but we bank at Natwest in one town and he is about 50miles away so branch would not know us and it could be difficult to withdraw

should be no problem as long as you get your branch to arrange things for you,have you spoken to them?
