Selling Gold Coins (sovereigns etc). Finding reputable buyer?

easy

My mother has several gold sovereigns and other coins which she has held for many years, some were her great-grandfather's, some bought by my father as investment in the 1970's.
As the price of gold is higher than it has been for some times, she has expressed an interest in selling some of them, and asked me to find out how to get the best price.
I know of a couple of websites who offer to buy them, but I don't really trust this way of doing this type of business.
How do I find someone who would offer suitable prices for these, and guarantee payment.
I do know this should be a more straightforward transaction than trying to sell jewellery.

I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

Unless your mum needs the money now hang on to them, you will never own a piece of worthless gold.
I have never sold any of my gold, it seems that most are happy selling on fleecebay. I've never traded that way, but if you are happy with them go down that route. You should get 140+ at the moment, perhaps more if they are of numismatic quality.
I have purchased over 90% of my gold through the web and post, never had a problem. so if you want to sell that way just find out from gold threads and forums who is recommended. Here is a guide to prices you could expect, don't forget any p&p.

The other place to sell is to local coin dealers, find if there are any local to you here. Always check before you go by phoning, this list is not always up to date.

But as I said at the beginning, don't sell if you don't need the money.0 -
Well Mum could do with getting some repairs done on the house, and she wants to put some money away for my son's university education (he's 10, and she wants to help him all she can, as at 80 now, she feels she probably won't be here to help him when the time comes). She felt she might capitalise on it while the price is high, altho' I'd be tempted to hold what she designates as "his share", rather than sell it, this is currently under discussion.
NO way would I go the ebay route with this.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
Just a thought, and funds being available, tell your mum that you will buy the sovs off her at 140 each to pay for the repairs.
Don't forget, if she passes on sovs instead of cash, they are off the radar with such people as HMRC.
(Not that I would encourage anybody to evade IHT !!)0 -
