Gas is priced in KilowattHours. Look the price up on your bill/or comparison site.
To convert your meter reading to kwH proceed as follows:
    • Multiply your units used by 2.83 to give you the number of cubic metres of gas used. (If you have a new meter measured in cubic metres you do not need to do this).
    • Multiply by the temperature and pressure figure (1.02264).
    • Multiply by colorific value (39.25)
    • Divide by 3.6 to get the number of kilowatt hours (kWh)
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Not sure what question is being asked.

If you have a Metric gas meter(cubic metres) then 1 gas unit is approx 11.2kWh

If you have an Imperial gas meter(cubic feet) then 1 gas unit is approx 31kWh

Bear in mind that npower have 'seasonal weighting'(sculpting) so the number of high priced Tier1 units varies each month - more in winter.

How do comparison sites cope with this particular quirk then Cardew?

    Quite easily!!

With all suppliers that use a Tier1/Tier2 tariff, they simply use the annual total of Tier 1 units(4,572kWh for npower) in their claculation.

So if, say, 20,000kWh are used in a year they calculate 4,572kWh at xxp and 15,428kWh at yyp. From that total they deduct any discounts for dual fuel, Direct debit etc.

That the 4,572kWh are not charged at a flat rate each month makes no difference.

I would have thought a gas and electricity salesman would have known such a basic fact - but hey, you are just learning.

(Casual readers should be aware that there was a hidden agenda - arising from another thread - behind the question posed)

Paranoia has got the better of you  A perfectly reasonable question, answered ok for me. The last couple of sentences let you down.

Although you may be correct, there has been no proof of any hidden agenda and I feel that you let yourself down by making such an allegation without evidence.
