Hi
As my car is now beyond economical repair, I have to replace it. I've sourced one from a local garage, but they need to road tax it.
Obviously I am keen to get the best value for money and don't want to pay for a full month's road tax when I won't get the car until nearer the end of the month.
Does anyone know how early in September the road tax can be bought to start 1 October? I've done various searches and found different answers ranging from 2 days to one month.
Thanks

From the DVLA Website ( http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_069680 ) :
If your tax is due to run out at the end of the month, you can renew it from the fifth day of the month.
If your vehicle has been untaxed, because you’ve just bought it, the tax disc has run out or a SORN is in force, you can tax from the first day of the month in which you apply.
If you want the tax disc to start on the first day of the next calendar month, you cannot tax your vehicle more than two days in advance.0
