307 losing power

Wonder if anyone can help, got a Peugeot 1.4 hdi 53 plate (110k on the clock) and when driving home on from work on Saturday noticed that the car suddenly lost power and speed started to decrease - even with my foot on the accelerator. The speed levelled out at 35mph and changing down the gears had no effect, eventually after a few minutes of crawling on the dual carriageway at 35 it started to pick up again.
I am very reluctant to take it to a Peugeot garage due to the prices they change but would like to have some sort of ideas as to what could be causing this sort of problem so that when I take it to a garage they are not trying to charge me for something that does not need to be changed.
So if anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like a sensor to me, my golf did this all the time, take it to an independent garage0 -
It could be a number of issues, a partially blocked fuel filter, blocked exhaust, blocked air filter, faulty sensor causing a limp-home mode, failing fuel pump, electrical problems...
Really, what you should do first is join a UK Peugeot forum, and ask there - because it may be a common problem. Do that before you take it to a garage and spend money diagnosing a problem that hundreds of other people may have had.0 -
Might be the FAP filter is chocked up. Without hooking it upto a diagnosis machine you will never know. Any decent garage will have one and will charge you say, 35 quid.0
