nintendo wii - returning to argos

Hi
I bought a Nintendo wii yesterday from Argos and it won't read the discs. It was a managers special. I don't want to waste time driving over there to be told to go to nintendo
Are argos likely to spend ages checking serial numbes/loading it up etc only to send me to nintendo?
I brought the 3 yr cover on it but don't really want to claim on it when its not even been used!
Thanks:mad:

Argos cannot tell you to go to the manufacturer - they must sort out the issue themselves.0

And make absolutely sure they don't invoke the insurance cover - it's a one-time use policy (i.e. it doesn't cover you for 3 years, it covers you for it going wrong ONCE within the first 3 years).0

I hate to say it, ut you'd be better off going to nintendo. They now provide free postage to send it to them for fixing, the turnaround is relatively swift and you wont need to worry about argos inevitably invoking the insurance incorrectly.
Argos will probably take about a week before they even send it to nintendo and you won't get your friend code transferred if they just replace it.0 -

nada, no way.
nothing to do with invoking any insurance or warranty cover whatsoever.
its your statutory rights you use in this situation.
get your rear to argos and say your rejecting the goods under the sale of goods act as they are inherently faulty. Its your legal right to reject goods when faulty if they are returned to the seller within a 'reasonable' time. i think most sheriff's would agree that the next day is reasonable!0 -
If you only bought it yesterday take it back and they will replace it for another without affecting your 3 yr Breakdown Cover, or you can opt for a refund for the console and insurance.
If you choose a refund instead of replacement, however, there is no legal obligation for a refund for none faulty accessories, e.g. if you bought additional remotes or games then you can't have a refund for those because (a) they are exempt from the 30 day moneyback guarantee, and (b) they aren't faulty.
Hope this helps![DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]

Just saying, sometimes it actually works out better for the customer to go direct to manufacturer as it resolves things quicker, more conveniently and sometimes cheaper.
If it's one day, then hotfooting it to argos and getting a replacement would be smart, because you've not had time to accrue a friends list, DLC and game saves.
If you HAVE got these things, then going to argos and getting a replacement will cost you your nintendo account on that console and will rob you of those things.
Going to argos and having it sent to nintendo will cost you a trip to argos, a few days while they get round to sending it off to nintendo, then a week or two to get it fixed, followed yb a few days waiting when it comes back to argos for them to notify you that it's arrived, then a trip to argos possibly costing time, petrol and parking. If you're on public transport, you've also got the inconvenience of lugging it about town.
OR
Call nintendo, get a RMA number and a postage label (or do they send out couriers now?), post it off (which can be a pain) then wait a week for it to come back to your door.
It's nothing to do with rights, sometimes it's worth using common sense rather than inconveniencing yourself just to make a point.
But like i said, if it is only one or two days and youve not had time to build up anything on your account that you'd miss, then a replacement would be a good idea.0
