Cheap Kitchen

Mfi are currently selling a kitchen which includes 8 units, a eletric oven/grill, 4 gas hobs and a kitchen sink complete with taps for £396. The full price of the kitchen should be £1537 with all of the appliances and it works out at over half price even at there current 70% off sale prices. This kitchen is not available on line and there is very little referance to it anywhere other than a flier which was circulated in the national press about a week ago. To order go in to any MFI store quoting RIM4006 for the units and AXZ2242 for the applicances. I've ordered mine!!!

The kitchen is in the Rimini style and can be found at:

  • I guess even for poor quality (not saying it is or not.. I've never brought a MFI kitchen) you can't go wrong.

My mum lives in a council house, so she is not keen on spending money on a kitchen refit. However at this price she might.

I would steer well clear of buying a kitchen from MFI.
Hubby and I got one about 2yrs ago.....we had a whole catalogue of disasters and would never spend money with them again.Problems are too long to list but were mostly dented and damaged doors and drawer fronts.....then we had to wait a further 3 weeks for replacements as they don't hold any stock at the store.I warned an aunt of this but she STILL went and bought one from them thinking that things might have got better but....NO she is still having problems after buying her kitchen in August. If you do buy from them...when you take delivery sign everything as UN-checked.Then check it all before you have someone fit it as if you need a replacement it will take 3 weeks or more to do so.

FYI: All kitchen cabinet components are now made in factories that are use 'computer numerially controlled' cutting machines. This make the precision of manufacture highly accurate - and has lowered the relative cost of purchase over the last 15 years or so as the woodworking industry has moved from a heavily manual to highly automated industry. The materials used - chip board, MDF and laminate - actually vary little from manufacturer to manufacturer as there are a set number of suppliers to the cabinet manufacturers. In my experience, MFI kitchens are as good as anyone elses. Handmade are obviously still expensive. Buying flat pack and self assembling is the cheapest way to go if you have the time and energy to.

FYI:We did buy flat pack and assemble it our selves. Our gripe with MFI was the way the finished doors were packed e.g they got damaged and when we contacted MFI their customer service was appalling.I think its bad that a company as big as MFI doesn't hold stock of ANY kind not even door handles or legs!

    Hi,
I've had my fair share of problems with MFI in the past but decided to check this out tonight for a friend.

    Unit pack code RIM4006 & Appliance\Sink pack code AXZ2242 cost £396

    Unit pack code RIM4006
    1 x 600mm 3 drawer base unit
    3 x 1000mm H/line? base units
    2 x 1000mm F/h? wall units
1 x 600mm hob wall unit (this goes above the extractor I think)
    1 x 600mm oven housing base unit
    1 x Maple continuous plinth
I think all the units are supplied with appropriate doors\drawer front and boxes but best to check.

    Appliance\Sink pack code AXZ2242
    1 x Diplomat white gas hob (ADP1132)
1 x Diplomat white conventional single electric oven (ADP3220) link is to ADP3210
    1 x White 60cm extractor (APP2162)
    1 x S\Steel single bowl sink (SIN6530)
    1 X chrome swan neck tap (TAP4100)
Click on the links to see what they are like.

What you will probably need extra is cornice, pelmet and worktop.
Cornice and pelmet (same item) is £16 for a 2400mm length
If you need more plinth then thats £16 for a 3000mm length

Personally the only drawback for me would be the oven isn't fan assisted.

I also looked at another option which was with different units, 10 in total and with better appliances\sink for £796

    Unit pack code RIM4009 & Appliance\Sink pack code AXZ3156 cost £796

    Unit pack code RIM4009
    1 x 600mm 3 drawer base unit
    1 x 500mm H/line? base unit
    1 x 1000mm H/line? base unit
    1 x 1000mm H/line? corner unit
    2 x 500mm F/h? wall units
    2 x 600mm F/h? wall units
1 x 600mm hob wall unit (this goes above the extractor I think)
    1 x 600mm oven housing base unit
I think all the units are supplied with appropriate doors\drawer front and boxes but best to check.

    Appliance\Sink pack code AXZ3156
    1 x Diplomat S/steel gas hob (ADP1170)
1 x Diplomat S/steel fan assisted single electric oven (ADP3340)
    1 x S/steel 60cm extractor (APP2170)
    1 x S\Steel 1.5 bowl sink (SIN6570) (not on website)
    1 X chrome Elite monobloc tap (TAP3100)
Click on the links to see what they are like.

What you will probably need extra is cornice, pelmet, plinth and worktop. See above for costs.

PLease note their website appears to be having issues

    Hope that helps someone.

    Cheers

    Rob

Edit - because I just read the op properly  :-[

Do you think a similar code would give discount on the Ancona kitchen?

I need a REALLY cheap kitchen and this is the cheapest and if I can get a big discount of this it will be even cheaper than the Rimini one :-/.

Would changing the last digit work on that i.e ACN1006?

I'd doubt it's that simple. However the original offer wasn't on display in the store, only the more expensive one and the one mentioned in the sale leaflet (came with a white worktop). So it might be worthwhile going to a store and asking what their deals are. MFI also have a price promise to match a similiar kitchen sold by a competitor and then give you some more discount so there might be some more leverage to get it cheaper.
    Cheers
