What and what BG Homecare covers

Now winter is round the corner it maybe worth checking what your central heating/hot water maintenance covers.

A couple of years ago my boiler broke down. BG came out and said the heat exchange had failed as it had sludged up. Assuming they would repair I was told BG do not cover this, despite BG coming round and maintaining it on schedule.

Question I'm asking is, is the cover worth it? It appears they can come around and repair a burst pipe, a pump but anything actually to do with the boiler - my experience heat exchanger they seem not to cover and condemn the boiler. £3k for a replacement!

PS. Living though this was enough to make me go all electric and works out comparable for me.

  • As stated before it covers everything in the boiler it just does not cover certain damages

again I shall state BG homecare does not cover 3 rd party damage ( It will when we turn into 100% Insurance.) Sludge,Limescale and corrosion.

Hope that helps and ease any stress you may be caused.

Ps all of this is mentioned in your good old T&Cs ;)

  • Thanks for your informative reply Gerald but to the general customer living in the UK doesn't who know if they are causing 3rd party damage? Who knows limescale etc is classed as 3rd party damage?

For example I had a 2 year old combi boiler. There is no problem with it, it heats water ok, the radiators are nice and hot to the touch when I turn the heating on.

I decide to take out BG homecare and all goes well. I get an engineer round annually who has a look at the boiler and says everything its working ok, I assume everything is fine and the boiler is fit.

5 years later (despite the annual checkup and no problems found or warnings given) my boiler doesn't work. I call on the homecare team as I am not getting hot water. I am told my boiler (technical explanation) is beyond economical repair because they do not cover the fundamental part of the boiler. Wouldn't you feel a bit cheated baring in mind BG hasn't performed after paying them over £1,200 for someone to come round and not find a fault with the boiler for 5 years? The only option is to replace the boiler at 7 years old, the quotes given from BG at £3.5K, cheapest 3rd party at £2k
