Hi all you lovely MSEers!!
We are getting married July 31st 2010, and after a massive kerfuffle with our vicar booking holiday for our wedding day we have finally started to get everything in place! So far we have the following booked:
Photographer - £1199
Cars - £300
Church - £700 (ish)
Reception - £250 (venue, add approx £1700 for food and drink)
All I am looking for here is a bit of advice really on what I should expect to pay for a DJ, playing approx 4 hours. To be honest this is one area I am willing to scrimp on as really its a job an iPod could do! Had 1 quote for £300, do you think I could get it for less? How much have you all paid for yours?
Many thanks for your help

This is one of those questions which truely depend on where you live. Reading purely from this site alone prices fluctuate greatly. For my wedding in 12 days time our DJ is £185 and time is not a factor. We did not scout round for one or price match as it was easier for us to agree to using the venues contracted DJ as he solely works for them in their nightclub and could garauntee our date without hesitation.
Try telling us your area and theres bound to be someone local to you lurking around with some experience.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

Hi there, I am paying £150 for him to be on from 7pm until 12.30pm. This includes 45 mins kids entertainment, an hours karaoke and the rest disco. It all depends on where you are though, I am quite far up North and we don't pay as much as what you would pay in London for services, if that helps. If you put on where you are maybe someone from that area can give you some more advice!
Your photographer seems quite a hefty amount aswell tbh, what are you getting for that price?
If you want any help give us a shout! Tiger xxMarried the most amazing man 05/12/09 and it was the best day ever, I'm a Mrs, he he!!:jWins 2009: Peroni Alessi bowl woohoo, 1 in 10 wins DVD from Maltesers, Avon lippy!!!Freebies-Bold Gel, CoffeePinecone Research - £9Mystery Shopping - £150 -

we are in Essex, just outside of London so expect to pay a little bit more than ooop North!0 -
I concur. There is absolutely no way you should be paying more than £1000 for a photographer.Tigerlilley1980 wrote: »Your photographer seems quite a hefty amount aswell tbh, what are you getting for that price?0 -
I agree its quite dear, it includes arrival at Church, up to the wedding breakfast. Min 200 pics taken, 2 photographers and leather bound album including 70 photos. AND they are AMAZING!!! as its the only part of the wedding you really get to keep (other than the rings!) its something I did not want to scrimp on!
For the same package all the ones around here were charging at least that anyway!

thats their basic package too!! We booked them because they were really nice too, and wont make the guests feel uncomfortable, they do a wicked Reportage style, just what we are after. Only top quality would do for the photos, il have them forever!!0 -
Gosh that's expensive for the photogapher!
And you don't even get the copyright on the photo's?
I'd think that is one of the most important things, apart from do they take good shots of course.
For DJ's, we have found them to be around the £175 mark, but the hotel have one they use who is £240. Haven't decided what we're doing yet.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
No, we will treat ourselves to the rights for our 1 yr anniversary. We saw a few after them, but once we saw their work we pretty much had our minds made up!0

Expect to pay between £100 to £400 for a DJ - the £300 quoted isnt bad depending on the type of music played and the length of time he/she will be 'performing'0

So why don't you use an iPod and docking station or plug the iPod into the PA system (if they have one)? What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0
