I took a bridesmaid dress into my local dry cleaner a couple of weeks ago. the guy told me it would be £12.50 and gave me a little pink ticket with a reference number, "evening dress" and £12.50 at the bottom. When I went back last week, a woman in there told me he'd quoted the price wrong because it was an evening dress and it would be £25....
I am a skint student at the mo, waiting for student loan to come in, which I explained and asked if I could come back next week when I've got some more money. She was nice about it and acted like she was doing me a favour, but are they actually ripping me off? If they quoted me wrong, is it their fault or do I have to pay? Double the price seems a bit much! any advice gratefully received!

You had a contract for them to do the job at £12.50. If a mistake 'in law' was made, they should have checked this out with you first.

Hi stebiz, thanks for your reply...yes I thought they could have called me before they cleaned it if such an error was made (which i doubt, i think they saw me coming!) i will make that point if they argue, thanks for the advice

Just to update incase anyone else has trouble like this - I went back in and politely explained that as I had a written and therefore legal agreement with them for £12.50 for their service, I was not prepared to pay any more..... they couldn't argue with it (although she tried to get me to pay an extra ten percent, which I refused) and I got my dress back. hoorah! thanks for the advice
