    • Apologies for long post :o
Have you tried the 'daily clicks' DD? I've done quite well and got loads of vouchers which I was saving for Christmas presents. (unfortunately used them to get me through).

I used to do them all but let it all slide when working as I didn't have time - I have re-joined Pigsback and will check out the Quidco thread when DS sleeps, thanks Bookies :)

Does OH file his own tax returns? I worked self employed, I did use an accountant but was suprised what I could write off against tax, such as tools, work clothes, travel expense, telephone, computer supplies, etc.

Have a chat at the local tax office there not all bloodsuckers some are quite helpful.

Whoops especially those who are registered with MSE :o
Thank you Denis, I will definitely make use of mysupermarket - have just trawled Asda with an awkward list trying to compare prices and have nothing to show for it but a headache! (um, and some chocolate...)

Oh does his own tax return, his dad is also s/e so his dad's accountant does it at mate's rates and this really helped bring the total down last year. So I hope I am being overcautious with my estimate, but then I keep remembering that OH didn't have those high travel costs until January of this year.

Welcome back DD and lots of luck! x

Hellooo DD, welcome back, we have missed you. :j

Nothing much I can add to the financial stuff, but do pop over to the Daily Chat if you fancy it...laughing at my ridiculous love life traumas will cheer you up. :)

We're all guilty of slipping up and burying our heads on occasion hun, so don't feel ashamed. We wouldn't love ya if you weren't human!

Thanks suizz, spud, luc, maz, snags! You're a truly wonderful bunch you know. I just feel so silly sticking my head in the sand while you are all dealing with things with such strength. I do feel ready to deal with things but also keep feeling teary and hopeless and am scared of the door/phone going. I don't want to live like this.

    • re:cat food

i have three cats and have been giving them dry food all their lifes. i decided to start giving them one pouch each per day of wet food for a little treat.

the pouches came in packs of 12 and the box only last 4 days for me. i have just last week realised how much cheaper tinned cat food is and now buy packs of 6 cans for a lot less than 12 pouches and it lasts for 6 days as i divide one tin by three. they get a bit more food as well as one tin is the same as 4 pouches.

not sure if you use pouches but they appear to be a total rip off if you have a few cats.

dh can't believe we hadn't realised before!
    • Thanks pebbles. We have two cats and they were having a pouch each for breakfast, and one each for dinner. I didn't want to give only dry food as I'd heard that it can cause kidney problems or dehydration, but pouches are SO expensive, you're right. I was buying 48 pouches for about £12 and that would last 12 days.

I've just bought a tray of 12 cans from Asda for £6 something - and this should also last 12 days! And that wasn't an offer price so if they do ever do deals I will stock up. If they're hungry, they'll eat it!

Re cat food I lost my two cats some time ago but your right dried does work out cheaper. I had also heard about the issues with kidneys and bladder crystasl associated with a 100% dried food diet so I discussed it with my vet and he said that it could be a common problem especially with the cheaper brands Brands like james wellbeloved etc it is not such a problem. Our local Acorn store used to give samples for you to take home and try. maybe ask at your local pets at home if they do similar as i believe Acorn has went bust.

    • Hi Beanie, thank you :) I'll drop by for a cuppa and apparently there are biscuits?! :D

Jinky I have been mooching through the Approved Foods thread over the weekend but it is SO long - might see you on there ;) I have been looking at the site though, it seems you have to be quite savvy in getting in quick and also thinking about what you might actually need or use - got to be more forward planning :)

Lilac I will think about giving the cats a dry food trial when we've run out of the rest but I wonder if they'd go for it? And OH for that matter, he'd cook for them if I let him  :p

So I am looking at Vodafone sim-only contracts thanks to Jinky, OH is unsure if we spend as much as I have said, so suggested I switch and see before committing us both, does that make sense? I assume I'd only get cashback for one anyway.
