Files on an external hard drive

I have purchased an external hard drive, but I am wondering if there is any way I can see the files one by one that I have out on their and edit them if I wish on the hard drive and not on my laptop. Is there a way I can do this?

Thanks

Not really sure what you are asking to be honest.

When it is plugged in, it is just the same as any other drive on your computer with regards to opening and editing files.
  • I have backed up all my files onto the hard drive and when I wanted to open one up to edit it i couldnt find it. The drive just said that I have backed up 500 files and it did not tell me what the names were or anything.

  • I bought a SEAGATE FreeAgent Desk 500GB, plugged it in and opened up to see how to transfer files over. I backed up all my files. Then I wanted to look at one of the files that I had just backe up and I found that I could only see how many files I had backed up and not the file names .

Have you not gone into 'My Computer' and viewed the drive through there?

catwoman, a simple way is to double click on 'my computer', double click on 'c' drive, reduce to half screen. Double click again on 'my computer' double click on your new external drive letter. Reduce this screen to half size.
Now choose what you want on 'c' drive, highlight it and drag it to copy it to your new drive, job done.
You can do any adjustments you wish to the files on your external drive.
