Ooops I broke my new(ish) clarks shoes

Options
I bought some shoes from clarks 3 weeks ago, with a slight wedged heal, and I've been wearing them every day since and yesterday the rubber 'wedge' bit split open and they've sort of colapsed on themselves.

I don't have the receipt any more as I was perfectly happy with them and I'm wondering if I should take them back to clarks? I have worn them a LOT in the past 3 weeks but surely they should last a bit longer!

I hate to complain in shops etc but money is tight and I can't afford another pair as I've just kitted out my DD with her winter shoes.

  • Well they should know they're recent stock, which should prove they were bought recently, and it will be obvious there's not that much wear on them.

Have you got a bank statement that will show the payment?
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

they were not fit for purpose. you should take them back to the store. if you feel uncomfortable, that will probably help a little as it will help show you are not on a scam. if you can remember which day and even what time you bought them, that will help show it's valid aswell. good luck.

Thanks! I'm going to take them back today, I'm going to buy a cheap pair of shoes at Asda as I literally have only flip flops or allotment boots so I'm not wearing the broken shoes when i go in to clarks :o daft I know but I'd feel doubly awkward going into clarks, removing my shoes and then asking for a new pair!

I can remember the day and rough time I bought them, and I think they might recognise me as I've been popping in and out checking for a certain pair of shoes that my daughter wanted were in stock.

I'm really suprised that they broke as I've always bought my shoes from clarks and my last pair of 'everyday' shoes were finally worn out after a couple of years of fairly frequent wear.

The same thing happened to my OH. They got rid of the reciept and paid cash. In two weeks they broke. Clarkes agreeded to exchange but they had run out of stock of the size and had discontuined the range. They gave a refund BUT the shoes were in the sale at half the price! So they would only give the refund for the sale price. About £30 was lost! The moral of the story is keep your receipts.
