Mushrooms

I'm really keen on growing my own mushrooms. I have a distant memory of growing them as a kid and having way too many. :rotfl: However i've popped down to my local B & Q who don't sell anything and my other local garden centre didn't have anything either.

Does anybody grow them and if so where did they get the equipment from?

Thank you all in advance.

    Hi,

My local Wyevale garden centre had them the other day-I know they are a nation wide chain. £5.99 per kit.

I've just started off organic Shi-take (Edited- blumin naughty word wotsit got me! :rotfl: ) and Chestnut mushroom kits this evening, they were mail order from Gardening Express.

They sound as if they should keep going for about 6 months, we shall see :D
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

I have used the kits from Wyvale before & had really good results. They take a little while to get going, but then seemed to all start to appear overnight. Would recommend.

I take it needs to be somewhere in the dark ? - like the garage (mine has no windows - so is in darkness for much of the time . How large are the trays etc. -

No, mine didn't need to be kept in the dark. You grow them in a polystyrene box which came with the kit. With the lid on it is presumably dark, warm & damp enough. I kept mine in the kitchen which is very sunny!
