Good morning all - I have a wee question about my sons XBox 360. He has an XBox arcade and now wants to join XBox Live. Could someone tell me does he need to buy extra memory or a hard drive to use this as I have no idea what he is talking about!! I have ordered him a wireless adaptor as I know that he needs to go online but I am not sure if he needs extra storage. Any help greatly appreciated.:T

Ive just tried accessing xbox live and as there was an update of more than 64mb it wouldnt let me access xbox LIVE, you either need the 128 ish memory unit or you need the 20GB hard drive. Does your sons xbox come with a memory unit0

Thanks for the quick replies - my sons xbox is the arcade version which comes with 256mb built-in memory.
Just had a quick look on Amazon and they are selling a starter kit for £60 with 60gb hard drive, 3 months Gold live membership, headset and network cable so it looks like I will be getting him this as it does sound as if he needs extra storage space.
Thanks again for your help:TOfficial DFW Nerd Club Member no 694

if i were you i would consider selling the console and going for an elite/premium
£190 gets you an elite (120gb) & game http://www.zavvi.co.uk/games/consoles/xbox-360-elite-console-including-bioshock-hdmi-cable/10059948.html
a 250GB console is due before the end of the year
for buying xbox live membership (you will get 1 month free with your console if you select silver)
plus 12 months can be had for around £26 online from companys selling live codes
however if you want the kit its £10 cheaper here http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/productpage.asp?productcode=XT14310 -

the 250gb is only for the call of duty modern warfare ltd edition console,
you think M$ will do it for just one console edition?

ok my apologies,
i had heard it was going to be just for the modern warfare game but clearly not0 -
As has already been mentioned, the hard disc is the way to go.
Your son can get on-line and play with the Arcade model, but it'll only be a matter of time before he wants to download demos and extra game add-ons, which he won't be able to do as it stands at the moment.
Once you connect the Arcade to XBox Live for the first time, the Xbox will try to update to the new dashboard which will take a large chunk of the memory from the card. You don't need to update the dashboard, but all his friends will have it.Dave. :wave:0 -
a while back M$ were doing free HD upgrades for arcade owners for the NXE upgrade.
though i doubt its still ongoing0 -

I only done my youngest sons Arcade model a few weeks back. It did warn about the memory it would take up and gave the option whether to update or not.
Mind you a free upgrade would have been nice.
