DIY Conveyancing?

Options
My partner and I have recently split up. We both own the house jointly but he is going to dispone his half to me (no money changing hands).
We also have a mortgage and need to vary the standard security to only my name.

How easy would diy conveyancing be to do this?
I live in Scotland btw.

    I've done my own conveyancing twice and although it was time consuming it wasn't difficult, basically just filling in the right forms at the right time. TH e main problem i hit was my building society insisted that they had a second solicitor to check my work and wanted me to go to their head office in London to do the paperwork (i'm in Liverpool). It was before the Internet and i just went to my local Library and got a couple of books.
    However i know things are different in Scotland, if i were you i'd google Diy conveyancing Scotland and you're sure to find some tips.

    Not found much on various websites but the library sounds like a great idea. Maybe they will have a dummy's guide :D
    I think i really just need to know how to word a disposition. I think the bank prepares the variation of the security though.

    Anymore advice would be much appreciated though, thanks.

    I got the Which? guide to self conveyancing. It's meant to be the best most easy to understand, and having flicked through a couple of them I tend to agree. Although I still have not got round to reading the book yet. I think as the poster above implied it's best performed when you are buying or transferring a property without a mortgage lender being involved.

    I'm in England so it might be different, but the conveyancing itself should be pretty straightforward if you are reasonably competant, intelligent, confidant and have good source material (the Which guide is a good start).

    BUT.

    There's little point. The mortgage lender will insist on a solicitor to manage the change to the mortgage. The difference in solicitor's fees between handling the mortgage only, and including in the conveyancing (which in this case is limited to registering the name at the LR since non of the pre-contract searches etc will be needed) is likely to be so slight that you'd be better off saving yourself the time and anxiety and get a solicitor to do it all.

    Shop around for all-inclusive quotes, making sure they understand before they quote that the work is NOT a sale, but is a name-change only (to morgage and property. Then ask the lender to accept your preferred solicitor.

    Spot on. Conveyancing is so cheap these days it is hardly worth the risk these days.

    In this case the lender will insist on you having a lawyer involved.
