Hi guys I've been doing the whole - what phone line rental & (probably) anytime package to go with. The trouble is that all of the above suppliers appear to have poor reports here for administration and customer service, even if the prices are low.
That would leave me to conclude that the savings (for me) aren't big enough to be worth it as the main gains would be on Mobile and International and if we began to make loads of those using CLI prefix codes from pure-BT would save rather more.
Is that the consensus of the forum?
There appears to also still be an option of getting Euphony on "calls only" but its not 100% clear its CPS allowing 1280 and others to still be used. Thoughts?

hi kevin, dont know what you think of the countries leading consumer mag, but their best buys etc may be worth looking at.0

What's more disturbing is he didn't address my actual question. Looking at UW's website they DON'T have ANY ANYTIME packages unless you tie FOUR services to them. You can't buy anytime as an extra.UW Spammer returns.
I also wonder how they got a bestbuy for phone+broadband as their prices are higher than TalkTalk, Plusnet and quite a few others. I'm assuming they are reselling either TalkTalk or Tiscali as they must be using someone's LLU.0 -
ypaymore a piece of advice please, how can I participate in forums without being accused of spamming? how are you any way? kevin there should never be anything distubing in a forum, yes UW have our own llu,and also inclusive packages But if UW doesnt suit your needs look at others ,thats my advice
Andy uw dis. ps bestbuys come from customer feed back,0 -
I changed my recommendation some time ago following Primus's disastrous (IMHO) decision to offshore their CS.Hi guys I've been doing the whole - what phone line rental & (probably) anytime package to go with.
Thoughts?
As you'll see from the HERE link in my signature below, BT's Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan with selective use of 18185 now offers the best mix for most people. If you make more than 100 weekday daytime UK 01/02/03 calls, BT's Unlimited Anytime Plan is the way to go (still using 18185 for calls to mobiles and most overseas destinations).
No need to pay club membership fees or hand over your gas, electricity or mobile phone accounts either!Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks again Heinz. That was what I'd teased out of your thread, but I thought I see what the feeling was about the alternatives. Not sure the rest of the family would be too good at prefix codes, but its a good point for regularly used numbers. It all feels rather simple and - to a degree - at odds with Martin's article.
I'm also weighing up a phone/BB bundle instead BUT in most cases the broadband is either a resold unknown (often with little bandwidth or with Tiscali), or its TalkTalk (which is atleast cheap but poor customer service, except in their forum) or maybe Plusnet (but I'm less keen on their current packages and phone is about the same as BT except for some free international that historically I would not use).
Currently trying to weigh up the daytime/weekday national calls balance as the two months I analysed in depth, one was about 150 and the other about 50 odd. Sigh. Need to check that on a couple of other months I think. The other annoying thing with BT is that they now seem to have removed the option to have a monthly contract on the call packages so I have to guess 1 years calling patterns before picking anytime rather than a (few) months!
I am assuming the whole customer service issue with the alternative landline calls is that they exist on a very tiny margin - unless you are on the wrong package or supplier - and so can't actually afford to run the business properly.
The UW offers looked very weak as there was no buyable anytime. I can't imagine locking (almost) every service into a single reseller! They'd have to be VERY good.0 -
BT still do a monthly contract for E&W calls but dont appear to do one anymore for anytime calls.
"Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan – standard plan
The Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan is available to eligible residential customers with no minimum period. Please note, a minimum period of 12 months applies to line rental for new customers and those switching their phone line from another provider, signing up to this calling plan.
The price is £2.95 per month plus line rental, which has a monthly cost of £11.25 if you pay by Direct Debit or monthly payment plan and elect for paper-free billing.
Otherwise, add £1.50 per month for payment processing fee levied by BT Payment Services Limited, a BT Group company, plus £1.25p without paper-free billing discount."
UW do sell a buyable anytimecalls package £7.75 a month, plus £1.73 club membership.

"Home Phone customers can subscribe tonumbers (beginning 01, 02 or 03) during ‘evenings and weekends’ or “at any time” respectively"
MoreTalk 2 (£3.25 per month) or MoreTalk 3 (£7.75 per month) which provide free calls to UK local and national

Useful info for some about BT E&W. The monthly-Anytime seemed to be discontinued at the end of August 2009. Sigh.BT still do a monthly contract for E&W calls but dont appear to do one anymore for anytime calls.

Well spotted with UW "anytime" but they don't advertise it on the site, and at that price I can see why (eg. BT are £4.95, and euphony £3.90, etc).0
