£12 Late payment fee, Natwest

Hi all, first post on the forums as a new member.
As the title says, I recently received a late payment charge from my Natwest Credit card for not paying a payment on time. I realise this is totally my own fault however I have a very good reason for not paying before the due date. My sister died of cancer a couple of days before the payment was due and I completely forgot about it...do you reckon I could try and reclaim on this basis?
I feel somewhat p**sed of with myself for forgetting about it as I have worked hard for many years to get myself out of a deep debt hole due to my ex-wife and I don't want to have any black marks on my credit rating ever again!
Any advice will be appreciated.
Great forum and site by the way, keep up the good work!
And, for those in debt, you CAN get out of it, I did.

I would contact the credit card company and explain exactly as you have done here and ask them, if they could refund the charge due to exceptional circumstances.
Have you paid it now though?
My condolences to you for your loss and yes I would argue the case on that basis of exceptional circumstances.0 -
Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.
I will do as you suggest and contact the card company. In answer to your question, yes I have paid the £12 charge, or rather it was added to my card balance last month as I had around £200 owing on it after a fridge/freezer purchase.
Thanks for your condolences by the way.
