Help! Pc problems.

Hi
Before I start I have limited knowledge on Pcs! Please bare with me!

I have recently got a new pc with Vista Basic installed.
For the last two weeks I have been trying to log onto Paypal and Ebay.
When the page attemps to load I keep getting a security message " the revocation certificate for this site is not available"
If I press proceed about a dozen times I manage to get to the log in page.
When I put my details in the "https" changes to "http" and the yellow padlock disappears. Does that mean it's not a secure site?

Also I cannot even get the log on page to appear on Barclays online banking. I'm Ok with logging onto other banking sites.
Have contacted Ebay and Barclays and they are not aware of any problems with their sites.

I don't have this problem on my partners laptop or work pc. So I'm assuming it's my pc settings?

I haven't changed any settings on pc. Or at least I'm not aware if I have!
Someone suggested a system restore, but for some reason when I try to do it on several occasions it goes through the motions and then says it is unable to complete.

I am able to log into other secure sites, eg Marks and Spencer, Amazon.

Sorry for the long post but I'm hoping that there is someone that will be able to shed some light on where I'm going wrong.

Thankyou for taking the time to read my post.

Debbie

  • What browser are you using? Have you installed all the latest security updates from Mcrosoft Update?

Do you have antivirus software installed? If so, that's probably what's causing the system restore to return unable to complete.

  • Hi
    Thanks for your reply.

I use Aol, and I've tried Internet Explorer 8, no joy.
Updates are all up to date.

    I've got Norton 360 installed.
I have tried doing a system restore with anti virus turned off.
Should I uninstall it and then try system restore maybe?

When I contacted Aol they told me that the reason I couldn't do system restore was because "that's Vista for you"

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks again

  • Doing a full system restore seems a bit extreme, at the moment anyway!

Have you tried doing a full update and scan with Malwarebytes? You may have a virus which Norton missed. It doesn't seem to be a widespread problem

  • Maybe before you do that there's a couple of other things to try! Is your system clock set correctly?
