Fault with seat tilt mechanism on Ford Fiesta 3 door

My son bought a 3 door Ford Fiesta from M53 Ford just over a year ago. It came with 1 years warranty remaining. Under that warranty it has had the seat tilt mechanism replaced twice on the passenger seat. 6 days after the warranty expired the drivers seat tilt failed. I spoke to Ford Customer Services to see if they would repair this as a gesture of goodwill. They declined on the basis that the car did not have a service at 12K and my son is the second owner. The car was in the ownership of M53 Ford when the 12K service was due! However, that is irrelevant as Ford acknowledge that they are aware of a problem with the seat tilt mechanism.They offered to repair the seat tilt for £81.25. I cannot see the point in replacing the seat tilt mechanism with the same faulty part. So, do I contact Trading Standards or is there an Ombudsman for the car trade? Any helpful suggestions gratefully received.

To be honest, it's a crap design and contines to fail on them. Say you will be happy to pay the £81 as long as they guarantee the part for 2 years

its a common thing.. on the fiesta owners club they will tell you how to repair it (search UKFN) friendly bunch and will help with any problems you have with it
