    Hello

I have been planning my daughters party (pirates and princesses) and have now started to look at party bags. Everything seems so expensive and I wondered what the average spend was per child, per bag????

    Hi
I would forget party bags totally. I found it was, "keep up with the Jones'" and they throw most of the stuff away after. They are only interested in the sweets. So for a few years now I have bought see through plastic cups from asda and pretty cello bags from ebay. (they do princess disney cello bags). I then put sweets in and tie it up. They look so pretty and cost next to nothing.

    Hope this helps.

  • I'd do mostly sweets, as most of the little toys etc you can buy are rubbish and get chucked away.

If you want to put gifts in, go for pencils, curly straws, hair scrunchies or hairbands (for girls!) things that come in big packs in Poundland/Asda/Wilkinsons etc and will be used.

  • how about homemade playdough i googled it and now after making my son it a few times i am now a pro :) makes some all different colours put it in a clear sandwich bag or something so it is airtight really cheap to make salt flour water food colouring oil and soda best to cook it until doughy as it lasts longer for some reason! print off colouring in pictures from the net and off to pound land for some cheap felt pens or crayons and some cheap sweeties and hey presto :) hope that helps.x

I like the idea of a cup full of sweeties, maybe I could get a box template and make a treasure chest of sweeties?

  • At all the parties I've ever been to they just put a piece of wrapped up cake in a party bag and everyone is more than happy with that. I think it's the best way - does anyone really want MORE cheap tat?

I love the idea of the cones filled with sweets and a little windmill - can just see all the kids playing with them on their way home from the party! :)

  • I buy all the different sweets that you get in the supermarkets which are 3 for £1,(asda do a huge selection) then let the children choose a bag when thy go home, which they love. Have done this for 2 years now with 3 children and spend £10 max (30 bags). Or like the above post, mix them all up into cups like pick n mix!!
  • You could do a lucky dip or pinata instead of a party bag. That way they can share and swap amongst themselves what they want.

Or decorate the room with the amount of balloons for 1 per child and then let them take one home.
