what heating?
Options
Hi all,
I have made an offer on a flat and it has been accepted. I've had the survey done and all is looking good.
There is just one drawback and that is that the flat doesn't have gas. This isn't a major issue for me but I wanted to see what people think of various heating systems.
Currently there is an Unidare Electricaire system which as far as I know works like a night storage heater and heats up air which is then blown about the flat. This system is very old and I am thinking of replacing it perhaps with Dimplex Duoheat radiators as I can use off peak electricity and boost it up when necessary with peak electricity.
Water is heated up by an imersion which I guess I'd need to use offpeak (flat has an economy 7 meter). Is it worth looking at a water boiler?
(During the week I'm out at work all day and would be at home during the day at the weekends)
I'd really appreciate any thoughts or suggestions as to other heating/water systems to investigate.
Thanks

You really have 3 choices, Night Storage heating, 'normal' electrical heating or an Air source Heat Pump.(ASHP)
The ASHP needs an outside wall at ground level for the unit, and the noise could be a problem to other flats.
There may be a case to have normal heating(panel heaters, convector heaters) and revert to a standard 24/7 tariff.
As you are out all day you may find the saving with storage heaters does not compensate for the extra you pay on daytime rates with Economy 7.0
