How do you cope financially? Part-time masters students?

Hi everyone :)

I have bene toying with the idea of doing a Masters for a few years now.

Im now thinking about taking the plunge and im undecided on how best to finance "living" around it.

We currently have a rather cushioned life as we live in tied accomodation and work ful time in london and have no debts. I have been skint before, and know I can do it agian. However - we wouldnt continue to live in tied accomodation if I do start the course. I can either do the course PThere in London or by part distance learning.

I do have the money for the course in savings, but dont want to finance "living" out o these.

Id love to hear your experiences of how you cope combining earning, studying for a maters and surviving!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

  • Hey Lynz!

Is there any chance that you can stay in full-time employment and get your employer to sponsor you, or is it in an entirely different field?

I think it depends on the subject, how you want to study and how long you want it to take. My husband has been doing a MPH as a long distance course with Manchester University. He did a couple of units a year for 3yrs and this year finished it by doing a dissertation. It was partly funded by his work but he didn't get any study time. I've got friends who've done similar things but in a shorter timescale while maintaining a full time job, it just requires organisation and somewhere quiet to study at home.
If it's a subject you're passionate about then go for it :)
