So,
Due to me having so self control i've cut up my debit and credit card. It's not the end of the world, i live with my parents so i can make my own lunch and i can walk to work. Just no going out for a bit. Oh wells. Anyone else killed their card?

Cor, never thought about cutting up the debit card... dont think I could really. But the credit cards were choppedm a while ago and the pins ripped into a million peices as they came through the door:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I haven't actually cut my cards up, they are locked away, but i guess i still worry about any major emergencys which may suddenly crop up and which may require them, especially as i have three kids. We have not actually used them since last year so we are now used to living without them.
As for our debit card there is no way i would cut that up but again we have got into the habit of not using it that often.
Once all the debt is gone i will cut up all but one of the cards and it is a day i am really looking forward to.
Good luck on your card free journey.Success means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. Johnny Cash

I cut up one of my credit cards and then managed to pay it off when I wasn't spending on it. Then I reduced my HSBC limit from somewhere in the region of £10K down to £1K, I didn't want the temptation there in front of me. But, I need the credit card for work at the moment as I just don't have enough spare cash to be able to expense things from my current account unfortunately. Once I'm more in control of the monthly outgoings I'll be able to get rid of the credit card and I can't wait. I have also taken to calling my debit card my DEBT card and am slowing getting into the habit of using it less.

Another idea I read somewhere is if you need to keep a credit card for emergencies but can't trust yourself not to impulse buy then.
Cut a plastic bottle in half. Suspend credit card in bottle and fill with water. Stick all in freezer. This should mean that if you do need to use it you will have to defrost it first and think very carefully about the consequences. Oh and no microwaving as it will destroy the card.0 -

I chopped my credit cards up over a year ago and I can honestly say that I havent missed them once. I do have a debit card but there is a different feeling to using that as I know that the money will come out of the bank account in the next couple of days so I am quite controlled as far as that is concerned. I must be because I am no longer overdrawn. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0
