Buying a bed, what beds mattresses are made in the UK?

Hi
I'm looking for a Superking. Slatted bed in loft already. Not the best space to get into, so looking at Zip and link.
Also considered compressed delivery of a pocket spring mattress that then springs to life when in the loft , and topping it with mem foam topper.
Any advice appreciated.0 -

Zip & link would be your best option, as full size steel pocket springs would be damaged by being compressed. The springs that are compressed are usually reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs which don't give very good support.0 -
What do you think of two 3' 6'6 mattresses, instead of a z&l? The bed is is wooden sleigh with rails that will hold mattresses in place. Will be able to spread wear over more edges. 1 superking memory foam topper will give it one mattress feel, but allow us the flexibility to not bother with the mem foam topper if it gets too hot in summer?0

You could do, but you will slide down the gap between the mattresses, and this could ruin the topper.
What you are planning sounds like false economy to me. Memory foam toppers are never as good as a mattress with the memory foam built in. And when the memory foam starts to split in the middle where the mattresses join, you will have to keep replacing it.0 -
We need a double mattress for our slatted bed. Don't fancy memory foam but have tried Marks & Spencer's M400 medium pocket sprung which we liked. We currently have a Sealy. any recommendations Is the M & S available under a different name elsewhere? We prefer to support independents and British made but not at too high a cost!

I don't know who actually makes the M&S beds, but one thing you can guarantee is that you can get better for cheaper (and British made), by not buying through M&S.
Have you checked that this mattress is ok for a slatted base?
Also you need to find out if it is non turn, as this can reduce the life of the mattress.
The layer of resilient foam concerns me. You need to find out if they are reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs, or if the mattress just contains a layer of reflex foam.0 -
I also tried the M400 and liked it. It is British made, and non turn.0

Just checking the catalogue now. GBP 799 for a 6' zip and link, seems very reasonable.
It also has side-stitching to hold the sides in place, most of the quality manufacturers seem to say this is worth paying for, it is labour intensive.
John Lewis are very open about their's being made by Spink & Edgar in Leeds, part of Harrison who also make Somnus.
I'd love to know who is make the M&S one, it would make me more inclined to buy.0 -
The M&S F400 has the memory foam topper. 6' Z&L for GBP 1049, 1406 springs in the 5'.
This is more than I have seen the Harrison Expresion for online, which has 2000springs, at GBP 999.
Planning on going to the LOCAL shops this weekend to try out some more beds, and also have a go on a Healthbed. They were very helpful when I emailed them, sending me a copy of Which report, and pointing me in the direction of some shops with them on the shopfloor to try.0 -

I would expect it to be British made, as mattresses are one of the few things that we are still best at making in this country. In fact you could narrow most of the bed industry down to the Yorkshire/Lancashire area.0
