Doctor surgery mistakes

You have every right to see your medical records. You just have to request to do so. You might need to give the surgery notice but I believe that most people are able to see their records and the surgery can't decline this request.

You do have the right, but if it is the same as in hospitals you have to apply in writing to the trusts legal department, and they will process your application, and then charge you for the priviledge of viewing your notes. Well thats how it works in the trust i work for at least

As far as I am aware doctor's surgeries don't tend to charge - although I'm sure there are some out there who do. I think all you need to do is phone up as to speak with the Practice Manager or Assistant Practice Manager and you'll be able to arrange it.
A big thank you to everyone who contibutes to the MSE forums :T
  • When you contact the surgery with your complaint ask for a "Same Name" warning flag to be put on your records so that whenever a member of the surgery accesses your records on the computer system a warning will pop up to alert them that there is more than 1 patient with the same name.

All the main clinical computer systems used by surgeries have this facility.

Hopefully this will prevent the problem occuring again, but if it does then they really have no excuse.

one of our resident optomertrists at work recieved a letter from the hospital (to our work address) about having her cataract removed ... it took us ages to find who the letter should have gone to and the referal letter was correctly completed it was the hospital who made the mistake!! maybe in this case there is a patient on the books with the same name and the hospital have looked on their system and sent the letter to you in error.

still a terrible error as a patient may be miss their appointment while the error is sorted!
Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"

It was a phone call from the hospital. So I doubt anyone has the same phone No, unless on a different area code. But thanks for replying.
