Court date cancelled grrr...

I had a day in court due as a witness next wed and got a call yesterday to say it had been cancelled, the person in question had had an accident (shame!)..i was out and it was not a great time for a conversation with them as i needed to let them know future unsuitable dates..
I got home and returned the call giving them the dates i can not do, i also stressed that it had to be at least 4 weeks away as i could not just drop work, this the lady said was fair enough and made a note.
I am self employed and wed has lost me around £70, i asked what would happen r.e this and she said 'i could try and claim'..i have actually now got most of my work back due to the possibility of not getting it back as it goes but am still about £30 short..

SO i am not happy that they have cancelled at the last min due to finding out the person due in court is half way around the world on a cruise so has obviously lied..how do people get away with these things?
I am wondering whether i will get my £30 back..i wouldn't normally bother but i am pretty annoyed being given the run around while he swans around on holiday and the rest of us deal with his mess so out of principal am thinking i might give it a try.

What would you do bother or not?

Put in your expenses claim like normal.

Kick up a fuss to the court if they are on a cruise... they've basically lied to the court by saying they had an accident, the judge won't look kindly upon this lie - or automatically rule in the other parties favour.
I run an event management company, I put on events, I go to events, if I don't know anything about events - its not worth knowing!

  • I agree - if they've been in an accident, they will be at home recuperating won't they? I'm sure the court could come up with some pretext to drop in on them...
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

Thanks! Well i know they are not at home and haven't been for the last couple of weeks so wasn't suprised in a way to get the call as wondered where they were. I'm inclined to believe the person who told me BUT of course i cannot prove it and wouldn't want to look stupid if it is not true!
As for the claim i will send it iff and see what heppens.
    Thanks
