Having just spent a frustrating time trying to wrap some freshly blanched sweet corn cobs in Sainsbury's cling film for the freezer and ending up with more of it wrapped round itself than the cobs, I'm wondering if anybody sells some decent heavy duty cling film that is easy to handle. Is there any 'tog rating' which differentiates one type of film from another so that you know what quality or thickness you're buying?

We buy cling film from Costco and I find it easy to handle. Not a help if you don't have a Costco close by and/or membership!Piglet

I find Lidls and Wilkinson's quite good but I tend to use sandwich bags these days.0

Sounds like it's good clingfilm - clinging to it's self so effectively.
Rather than looking at clingfilm - perhaps look at a dispenser which will keep a hand free and prevent it sticking to itself until required.0 -
bizarre but true - keep it in the fridge and it doesn't wave about and cling to everything but the thing you're wrapping as much. Expensive but fab - Lakeland0

We use catering clingfilm by castleview.
Has about 1000 feet of film and last ages for normal domestic use.
Very convenient to use, has a sturdy plastic segregated edge cutter which is attached to the box - similar usage to a sellotape dispenser whereby the film stays on the cutter's edge ready to be used next time.
I haven't seen it in normal supermarkets but most probably get them in cash and carry stores. I get them from a large Chinese supermarket.0 -
It is expensive but lasts ages and the cutter box thing is THE BEST: Lakeland, definitely. Get the plastic box with the lid which chomps down on the film and cuts it crisply - no more scrabbling for the end, or shredding the box when trying to use the pathetic cutter teeth. Lakeland every time !0

I use a low migration catering cling film and it really is the best I have ever had.
I buy it from my local discount store, I also buy the catering foil and both are only £1.99 each and last for agesBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

What you need to do is know the difference between different TYPES of cling film:
You have to consider that their are many different tyes of cling-film so it depends on the type of cling film that you buy, not what brand.
PCV cling-film is a film that will stick onto ALL surfaces but if you buy non-PVC cling-film you’ll get the result you obtained. Look for one with polyisobutylene in it for stick-ability.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -
I have for some time been frustrated with the reduced thickness of cling film which is generally available, and the consequent difficulty of handling a product that wants to stick to itself before being wrapped around anything. I even contacted Baco about this problem, and was told that their cling film conforms to the same standards as Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's. All this tells me is that they are all making the same, misguided mistake - presumably a few microns saved on the thickness saves them lots of money. I know standards have changed because I used to make a point of going to Sainsbury's specifically to buy their cling film as it was so good. At the time, the product had a noticeable yellow tinge when viewed on the roll. Then it changed - the colour changed to clear, and the film took on the unmanageable characteristics that now infuriate so many users. (There is a message here - I now make fewer trips to Sainsbury's. I wonder how much total income such a simple change has cost them versus the obvious cost savings of reducing the thickness of the film.). A suggestion - retailers introduce a thicker upmarket variant alongside the cheaper version and give consumers the choice. Given how much of the thin film I waste, and how much frustration it generates, I know which I would choose.0
