Is this from the point of view of a psychology experiment?? I didn't do psychology but there was one module that was psychology based. If I remember correctly you had to consider

Would there be a lasting effect on the participants?
If so, how would you allow for this and how would you counteract this?
Would you be manipulating the participants in any way? If so, how could this be avoided?
Are the participants aware of what they would be doing and why? Question of manipulation again. Also would you be asking them to do anything illegal or immoral?
Also need to consider the participants cultural/social norms.
    Is the experiment ethnocentric.

I'm sure there are other students around who do psychology and would be able to give more imput.

If its not psychology I can give you ideas about the ethical considerations of an experiment as part of a social science research project if that helps.

  • I don't know how relelvant it is to psychology, but in my course we have a lot about the ethics of informed consent, a person has to understand exactly what they're going to be put through, acknowledge any risks associated with it, the longterm implications of those risks and still agree. If they are not given all the information, you cannot have informed consent. Issues apply to the confused and children as to whether you can experiment on them as they may not fully understand the implications and therefore cannot give informed consent.

  • I was going to say the same as muddled - informed consent is a key word I remember. Also the validity/reliability of any results - subject to interpretation of questions/elaboration etc from participants.

Perhaps this essay is a test to see how resourcefull you can. I don't know what course you are studying but I think it would be great if you can think through materials etc studied so far and find some kind of link, however, small. If you validate your point with research/quotes/evidence etc whatever you course requires you should be fine.

Good luck and remember the best thing you can do is try ... a bad essay handed in is much better than no essay at all - a tip I am determined to follow myself, having not handed essays in because I was too busy striving for perfection/worrying about if it was right or not.

I am sure you will do fine .... keep us updated.
