Hi there, I have an electric cooker which has had better days but still useable, do you know the best way to get rid of it please?
Some firms will take it away at a cost of approx £25 when the deliver the new one but just wondered if anyone had any better suggestions?

Council might do it for free, ours does.0

list it with freecycle, someone will have a use for it.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I called the council but they seemed so unsure of facts and suggested taking it to the tip... Might be worth calling them again and hopefully get to speak to someone else!
Thanks for replies, what is freecycle please? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Our council collect free too. We're allowed 3 collections per year of 3 items per collection. This includes large furniture (eg. we're having some old wardrobes picked up next week) and large electrical appliances such as cookers and fridge/freezers. My parents however are in a different council area and don't have a free council collection service.0

Our council collect for free as well and at least you know it will be enviromentally disposed of.0

My Mum advertised hers in her local paper, said it was free to collector. Made a young couple very happy.0

Thanks for your suggestions, although I didn't get a chance to try any of them out - I emailed the council to ask about collections and in the meantime we put the cooker outside the front door for a couple of hours until we knew what we were doing with it. Well next thing we knew it was gone

The following day got an email from council to say they charged £20 for a collection so that was abit of luck
