Sky Tv

Freeview TV is rubbish in my area and I'm sure I'm not the only one to say this. The picture goes on and off despite a new arial which cost me loads. I already had a satellite dish and toyed with the idea of seeing what was on the sky digital satellite if I bought a Sky Digibox.
The cost to me was as follows:
Sky Digibox bought in Car Boot Sale: £5
Satellite Dish, wiring and set up: nothing as I already had this. This is fairly easy to do yourself and does not cost a fortune.
On connection WITHOUT any card from Sky, loads of channels lit up and were automatically active. I cannot get Channel 4 or Channel 5 but ITV (all channels) , BBC (all channels) and some movie and entertainment channels are all available free of charge. If you do need a card for Channel 4 and 5, go to https://www.freesatfromsky.com which will cost you £20. Sky guarantee this card for three years too. They will try to sell you the £150 package which includes new equipment and the whole dish setup but it's not necessary if you can get the equipment from ebay or a car boot sale and align the dish yourself.
Of couse, you will get charged if you want any of the normal Sky channels but as an alternative to Freeview, it gives a much better picture and most areas should then be able to get the extra ITV and BBC channels, music, entertainment & movie channels.
Hope this helps a few people.

As I understand it at the moment the digital signal is broadcast through the transmitters alongside the analogue signal. To avoid cross interference both signals are at reduced capacity. When the switch off, of the analogue system takes place the digital signal can then be boosted. Hopefully a lot more people can then receive a good service through Freeview.
Of course by then loads of people who cannot get a good signal now, will have invested a lot of money in a "dish".
Only our government could mess things up this badly. Imagine what Rupert Murdoch would do if Sky were in a similar position.0 -

Absolutely true, but this won't happen in many normal areas of the UK until 2011 or so and many people will have already bought Freeview boxes already. Check at http://www.freeview.co.uk/ to see if your area is available for Freeview first.Scire tuum nihil est, nisi te scire hoc sciat alter :cool:0
