Bill Set up

Hi

I've just moved and had to set up new bills etc. I've been made to over pay, or pay in advance a few months ahead on some bills like virgin media and TV license.

Has anyone else come across this? and is it allowed? any views or is it normal.

Cheers

  • When I moved I got charged in advance only for Sky, I expect Virgin are the same, but not for any other bills. HTH

The licence fee is normally paid up front for a year. However some payment schemes allow you to pay in instalments, so that people can pay for their licence in more manageable segments.

With monthly Direct Debit, for example, you pay the full cost of your first licence within six months (around £23pm), which then essentially gives you your permit to watch for the full year. After six months the monthly payment would go down to less than £12pm, as you will be paying for the first six months of the next licence ahead of the licence renewal date, whilst the last six months is then paid in arrears. These payments will always add up to the same amount as the annual licence fee.

I hope that helps explain it - for more information on our payment channels do have a look at the TV Licensing website.

    Yes come across it plenty

    Yes its allowed

I'd expect to pay in advance always for rentals and only in arrears for actual usage charges. I.e Sky, BT etc rentals up front then calls or films eetc in arrears. Same with gas and electricity any rental/standing charges up front with usage in arrears.

You are not invited at all.

You must contact this site management before representing TVL.

I think its best if you do that before posting again.
