Really?? Halifax charge £10 for Bankers Drafts when they come from a current account (as you can have a cheque book from there, so can write one yourself), but they are free from savings accounts.
I believe that one customer benefit of the merger with Lloyds is going to be an aligning of current account bankers draft fees.

£20 from some point in the not too distant future (although I've had no notification of any change to the free savings account option).

Good to see the savings made from slashing staff numbers being shared with customers!

  • You can register for an e-savings account- would cost you £1 to put in it and then get access to online service and view monthly savers.

That was exactly what I did. I even didn't put any money on the e-savings account. Can't see any problem at all. Get move on....
  • I had no hassle at all in the same situation last month when my term came to an end. The regular saver account had been "matured" and closed and the deposits plus interest were all in an "easy saver" or something ... I asked for this to be closed and the funds transferred by BACS to the bank account I'd made all the deposits from and this was done very quickly. I also effortlessly opened a new account in the same 15 minutes in a branch.

You can't get registered for on-line banking with them if you just have these savings accounts, but they were happy to do the online transfers without any charges attached etc that you report ...

    Hi,

Can you elaborate how to get an e-saving a/c pls?

I just checked and Barclays state that "To open e-savings you need a Barclays current account. You can apply for a Barclays current account online." but I don't want any c/a with them :confused::confused:

    Many thanks,

You can apply for an e-savings Reward account online whether or not you’re an existing Barclays customer.

Or http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/brccontrol?task=homefreegroup&value=14936&target=_self&site=pfs for e-savings reward which is the same as e-savings but better interest and limited rewards- not that you'd seriously use it- it gives you a bit better returns on anything you stick in to keep it open.

Mind you it seems you don't even need to do that!

BTW, it took me 2 weeks to get everything all set up and I had to make 2 or 3 phone calls to Barclays. Took a while for the application to get processed so I phoned and was told of delays. I got the welcome letter but they had inverted the sortcode and account number. I realised, but . I got Card Reader, card and pin (on impossible to read scratchy thing) the following week. Unfortunately did not get any login ID, but a call sorted that out and once I got all the information from them the online stuff was straightforward.

You can withdraw any amount you like from the account that the monthly saver is transferred to once the money is there.
