A different "ant" question

My OH is paranoid about the pesky things getting into the house  . This time of year he goes on ant-watch every evening, spraying and ant powdering all over the place (outside). He's finding that a lot of them are coming out of the brickwork and has now suggested drilling holes in the brickwork  to "let them out" rather than them find their way inside, with a view to filling in these holes when the "season" is over (July-ish). Is this a good idea?

Is he going to add little ant-signs so they know that these holes are the 'way out' not the 'way in'?
    :D
How big a problem is it? Are you over-run with them in the house or just a few?
  • The Nippon gel stuff that they take back to their nest and it kills them all works pretty well. Wilko sell a good range of ant killing stuff at reasonable prices. I wouldn't start drilling holes :D

I don't consider we've got a problem. I just ignore them, if I don't go looking for them then I can't see them, therefore no probs. OH has just got this "thing" about them. We've had a few in the bathroom and usually get a few just inside our front door. I think I'll try and persuade him NOT to go drilling holes in the brickwork, as you say it might encourage ants in rather than out.

As I said previously, think I'm gonna persuade OH that holes are a no-no. I'm going to try the borax/icing sugar mixture and, as you suggest, get the b****rs to kill themselves.
