100+ police motorbikes in a 'race' this evening?!

Hi,

I'm sure someone on here may know what I saw on my way into work this evening?! Coming up the M3 and then onto the M25 colckwise were 100+ police motorbikes being led by bikes on blues, and followed by a car on blues. The car had 'race rear car' written on the back, and some of the bikes had 'race bike' written on the side. They were all police bikes with officers on, the bike at the front was leading and slowing traffic down so the pack could file in front without having to slow down.

What the hell was all that about?! Police using blue lights to have a 'race' on public roads?! They weren't going over the speed limit or driving dangerously, actually it was quite an impressive site seeing them move around in formation!

Anyone know what was going on?

Sounds like the Met were on their way to Brixton for some of their special "Race" relations...

Its to do with the tour of Britain cycle race. I assume they are marshalls returning home?
  • It'll be the police escorts for the Tour of Britain heading from the end of todays stage up to London ready for the final stage tomorrow.
  • Oh I see! Thanks!

Well if they joined the M25 clockwise at the M3 they didn't get too far as just passed the A1 turnoff it was shut for at least 8 hours:eek:
