Growing veg in a tent - would this work?

I want considering using an old kid's pop up tent on my allotment for growing toms etc - would it work?!
It's pale yellow so would let some light in.
It'd be very moneysaving if it works!

If you live in an exposed area your tent would blow down quite often and could damage the plants. Polytunnels are essentially a large, clear, secure tent. If your idea was viable then I think it would have been discovered before. Just my opinions but hth!0

You won't get anywhere near enough light in. Plants need the sun and in winter have to take advantage of every little bit they can get. It needs to be glass or plastic. You can get small cheap mini cold frames - or you culd try making one using some old window frames rescued from a skip or from the local tipMake it and Mend it - because life's too good to throw away0

I did think if it would work then i would've seen others doing it...
It's not an exposed allotment, i might put it up and use it for a short time as whilst waiting for bed space to become available.
Thanks for your replies!0 -
It won't work at all, don't bother, it will produce sickly gangly plants.
You could use the frame and put some sort of transparent cover over it, fleece, enviromesh, plastic etc.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

That entered my small mind, have to see how much some clear plastic would cost, I'm sure we can create something somehow.
Thanks for that.0 -
No, sadly there won't be nearly enough light. If there was a way of removing the canvas and substituting it with clear heavy duty polythene you might be able to use it as a cold frame as long as it was securely anchored down, but still rather a risk I would think.0

You can buy heavy duty polythene from B&Q.
I bought some to put inside my 6 x 4 plastic greenhouse when it started to rain in.
It's now covering the whole of the shed roof as that has started to rain in , until we can get a few days to re felt it.
I've just had a look and can't find it on their site, will have another look later. It was about £7.50 and has covered the whole roof of a 6 x 8 ft shed.0 -
