Hi Northernbird, I am due to go bankrupt on 18th of the month. Was the 2nd but has been delayed as I am having an IP come with me and she was very ill. I don't know about you but I have been trying to sort out my finances for the last 12 months and have tried absolutely everything. I have tried to set up and iva and did not have enough for the premium. I tried a DMP but I would have retired before I had paid half of it back! So bankruptcy was the only option. I was shot to pieces on this board for paying an IP but she has dealt with all the creditors for me, filled out the paperwork for the court, advised me and held my hand (metaphorically) in the middle of the night when I have been unable to sleep. She has been wonderful.

So hopefully on the 18th I will be able to start getting on with my life.

Good luck and if you decide to go down the BR route don't think that for one minute you are alone. Also it comes so far down the list of court priorities that they hold the hearings early in the morning so they can get on with the important business of the day. (Told to me by the court official).

Pm me if you want info after the 18th.

hi i dont think bankrupcty is low on the court priorities my oh appioment was at 3.30 but the judge was very nice and even said somtimes you just need to know when to throw in the towel it realy isnt that scarry once your in there and dont feel ashamed my famley dont even know that oh is bankrupt they dont bother reading small adds in the local paper the forms are not hard to fill in and if you do need help phone the court up they will be able to advise you
the whole thing last about an hour and you are sitting around for most of that waiting for the judge and phonecall of the o/r but dont go to the judge with the attuide that this isnt important or he may refuse your bankrupcty very rare but why wind the judge up he is looking for you to be sorry and vow you will never do this again
i cant slow down i wont be waiting for you i cant stop now because im dancing
  • Hi guys. Just wanted to say thank you to all of your kind replies and advice. I thought a lot about everything yesterday and when I got home I fel oddly calm. I've realised that there is nothing I can do about what has already happened, and can just manage the best I can. I've rung Payplan and they're sending some stuff through for me to complete, so I'll see what advice they can offer me. I've been fretting about the consequences of whatever I decide, but I've just got to pick the best option and deal with the consequences as best I can. What more can I do? I don't feel quite so scared of bankruptcy any more, so than you for the information.

Little pieces of good news. I've been offered a days work at my local cricket ground in a couple of weeks. Tax will take some of it, but it's better than nothing. My ebay stuff is selling ok. Not particularly high prices but it all adds up!

OH has his job interview today, so please think good thoughts for us. What we can do with our finances pretty much hinges on whether he gets this job. He should know by the end of the day.

Thanks guys. I'll let you know. xx

Just read this & want to send you a huge hug...cant offer much advice (other than CCS were great when I rang them) as v. new to this but my heart goes out to you. If you've tried your hardest you can do no more can you and at least you've tried to manage. You're not a failure...you only fail if you havent tried! Will be thinking of you with DH's job situation & will keep an eye (having a couple of days off to sort myself out so on here alot as listing en ebat etc!!)...big hugaroos!!

  • Hi guys,

Just wanted to let you know that OH got the job. He starts on the 20th and it's for three days a week. Fingers crossed it works out and they don't change their minds!

We're not out of the woods by any means, but it's money and we might be able to crawl out of this mess without resorting to bankruptcy. Lots of budgeting to work out at the weekend.

We still have the problem of the solicitors letter saying that will take OH to court to recover the money he owes a company. Does anyone know how this works? We should be able to start giving them some money soon (though it will be in installments) but I think it's come too far to prevent court proceedings. Any advice on this would be appreciated, as I am completely ignorant about it.

    Thanks xx

Great news on the job! Yahoo!! The only advice I can give is please get some advice from one of the recommended companies (watch out for the sharks, pleanty of them circling I am sure!)...much better to get it sorted than to worry so much over something that can hopefully be sorted and even i it cant be sorted at least you know where you are & where you are going? Big hugs, keep us updated!
