Final Demand Notice - Parking Ticket

I got a parking ticket in August for parking in a controlled parking zone without displaying a valid ticket/permit. The reason I parked there was because one of my children was ill and I thought it the safest place to park. I ran to a shop and returned within 5 minutes to find two guys writing a ticket. I allowed them to stick it on the car and then drove off. On looking at the ticket I discovered that they had stated that I had been there for 10 minutes - not 4. I wrote a letter the the company (Vehicle Control Services Ltd) explaining the circumstances and (of course) got a reply saying "tough". I posted a thread on this website and the replies I got were to ignore the company - which I have done. I have since got a Notice to Owner and today - have received a Final Demand Notice stating that Failure to Pay Will Result in Court Action. The fine has gone from £80 to £120. My question is what should I do now? If they start court proceedings how do I fight it (which I'm more than happy to do as they lied - I can get a statement from the shop confirming that I was only there for a couple of minutes) and do you think they will carry out their thread, based on what it states on the Final Demand Notice. Can anybody give me any advice please

They'll probably send you a final, final demand notice. Then a last final demand notice. Then an offer to pay a reduced rate to avoid court proceedings. Then ... nothing.

This is all part of the scam to scare people into paying up. Don't fall for it. And you haven't got a fine, just an invoice of highly dubious validity.

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.
