DVD not working

I have a DVD rom/CD player on my computer. I received a CD lens and Disc cleaner for Christmas which I used a few days ago. I used the CD which also has a small "brush" attached. When I then tried to use the DVD yesterday it would not work. The CD rom still works perfectly.
The last time the DVD did not work, I reinstalled the software and it was o.k. Tried this and also checked for any updates, and used my computer's helpscreens. Did a test using compaq support which said the DVD failed the test. Nothing has worked.
Have I destroyed the DVD capacity?
I have a Desktop Compaq Presario 7482.
I used ONE FOR ALL CD lens and Disc cleaner - just the disc.

is it a combined dvd/cd player or two seperate units?
If its a combined unit then its probably the dvd playback software that is the problem.Try inserting a dvd and open the disc via "my computer". this will show you if the drive can actually see the files on the disc0 -
Hi Mr Fishey
It is a combined DVD/CDROM player.
Took your advice and got the error message:
E:\ is not accessible. The device is not ready.
Tried it several times and took the DVD out and replaced it - same message.0 -
will the drive still read cd's,if it doesnt then it sounds like the laser has possibly been damaged.
the other thing to chech is the ribbon cable on the back of the drive is not loose. The other option is to replace the drive with a dvd re writer for about 40 quid, best of both worlds then0
