Nectar points not looking too good

Options
After acquiring an American Express Nectar credit card about a year and half ago (the height of Stoozing), I've managed to rack up a fair few Nectar points.

As I've now got quite a few, I was looking to spend some of them. A quick varied look at their rewards page points offers up the following:
  • Jamie's America - 4300 points
  • Toshiba 19" LCD TV 19AV505DB Black - 52,300 points
  • Bosch Digital Tape Measure PMB 300 L - 8,700 points

Now, taking a One Nectar point to be worth 0.5p, lets work out what these are values at in Pounds (simply divide by 200)
  • Jamie's America - £21.50
  • Toshiba 19" LCD TV 19AV505DB - £261.50
  • Bosch Digital Tape Measure PMB 300 L - £43.50

Most of these are very overpriced. A quick google finds the above 3 products for £9.99 (amazon), £136.99 (electrical deals), £39.99 (amazon) respectively

What does everybody else do with their Nectar points? I really don't want to spend my Nectar points of massively overpriced products.

  • I'm saving ours up for expedia vouchers as we usually use them to book holidays.

It may be cheaper for you to get the book, and TV from your local sainsburys where you can use 500 points for £2.50 off. So you'd likely get a better deal as the prices would be cheaper.

You can convert 500 points for £2.50 off at Argos as well. I would never buy any goods from the Nectar range as everything seems to be overpriced.

I've been saving up my points for nearly 10 years now. I haven't got many but looking forward to spending them in Argos soon.
  • I know we all like to get good value for money, but at the end of the day, using the nectar point isn't the same as using cash. The product you are getting is actually FREE to you. Ok so you want the most for your points, but remeber it's not actually costing any money!

Exactly. Get something you actually want, enjoy it and stop worrying about whether it's a bargain. Of course it's a bargain, it's free! If there's nothing you want, wait until there is.

I get mine deducted from my Sainsbury's bill :) I only get points on stuff I was going to buy at that place anyway, don't spend extra while I'm there or go out of my way to spend the money there - so to me it's free money :)
