help with Npower
Options
Hi all,
im looking for some advice;
we have had a prepayment gas meter installed to help cut costs down however they have added our last quarterly bill(even though we have been paying prepayment for the last 6mths) on to the meter so we are paying it in debt. if we put £5 on the meter it takes £3.50 for this debt and leaves us £1.50 gas which will then at midnight reset and leave us with £0(this happens every day we add gas).
we have rang up npower and they say this is because we are behind our weekly charges the meter adds £3.50 per week as a charge for the privilege to pre-pay. we were not made aware of this charge but npower are not the pleasantest people to speak to.
we have a 2 year old son can npower rightly turn our gas off every day?
Thanks

Are you saying that on top of the costs of your gas, there is "rent" on the meter of £3.50 a week ? or are you saying that you were in debt to NP and they reclaim this debt at £3.50 a week ?
Your OP is not clear to me. Sorry.0 -
npower have a daily standing charge of 48p that comes off your meter every day at 2am. if you have debt on the meter it takes it takes 70% of each top up you make a week leaving you with 30% of the top up for use towards your gas. the standing charge is basically rent to national grid and everyone pays it. prepay customers through the standing charge, credit customers through standing charge or by a being charge a higher cost for so many units each month.
if you are in your emergency credit then no standing charges are added and no debt repayment is taken and is added to the debt so that when you do go to top up it seems like you hardly get any of the top up due to the 70% that gets taken for debt repayment.
you need to check your meter screens numbers 24 onwards i think as that i beleive shows you how much your debt repayments are set to each week.Debt free 3 years early :j

forgot to add, you dont get a bill with npower when you are a prepayment customer, you get a statement of your account showing the total amount outstanding or in some rare situations in credit. you need to increase the amount you are topping up each week on your gas card or you need to call npower and see if you can come to a different arrangement if your are genuinely struggling.Debt free 3 years early :j
