Hi,I've just changed my ISP from orange to BT today.I've got windows mail on vista and I dont know what happens to my emails now.I've been given a bt e mail(myname@btinternet.com) but what happens with the mail that comes thru on my PC? Do I need to change anything? Its the first time I've changed ISP mostly because I was terrified it would be too complicated to find out where to change settings and stuff.I'm not very sure on how to adjust things on my PC and I'm the most clued up in the family! I'd really appreciate any help you guys can give me as you have always been a godsend to me before.RR

why do you use isp mail anyway? isn't gmail or hotmal or yahoo good enough?
Do you use email client like outlook or thunderbird for your mails?0 -
Whatever email you had in the past will vanish and you need to let people know your new address.
You will need to set up windows mail with the details of your new account.

I'm fairly new to computing and the only way I've ever acessed my e mails is by using the outlook express on my older PC and now its called windows mail on my new computer. What I'm trying to find out is will my mail still arrive as before or will I have to change things? Do I have to go to btinternet and read them? I'm not sure if I have to change my address from the fsnet one to something else and then tell everyone.:o"Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0

Windows mail is just an updated version of outlook express.
you old isp would have given you an email address - you@oldisp.co.uk
Although, when you leave an isp that address may remain active for some time, it will eventually be of no use.
So you need to set up a new account in windows mail for you@newisp.co.uk
And you will have to tell everyone. Just like moving house.
Which is why people suggest getting your own domain name which can redirect any isp that you happen to be with, for example you@yourname.com or go for a yahoo, hotmail, googlemail. gmx account and give that address to everyone and then that will stay your address for as long as you want0 -
i would still recommend using web based email like gmail.com , mail.yahoo.co.uk , live.co.uk
That way you will never have to worry about setting up your email accounts and backing up your received emails

Web based mail definitely has it's uses but the convenience of isp mail, instant and no logging in, can't be ignored.
I'm using Thunderbird with a web SPAM filter just to be sure.0 -

You can set up Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail etc, on an email client. There's nothing special about ISP email other than losing it whenever you change ISPs.
I second the suggestions above to use an independent email provider.0 -

i would have thought the minor task of logging in far out weighs the hassle of informing all your contacts , changing all your online store data etc especially if you change isps on a regular basis0 -
You're right about the email client Marty.
Sorry nickj but I've better things to do than keep logging in.
I've been with the same ISP for years so really not a problem for me personally.
I have a web based e-mail as well..... and find a different use for both and find that set up useful.
Excuse me, but I've just received a mail just now,
bye0
