External Hard Drive

Hey
im after an external hard drive to put my music on and i have found this one,

and was wondering what people think.
firstly i can only afford about £30 so i think this is suitable but i want other people opinions

Depends how much storage space you want, and whether you can forfeit a bit of portability for a larger, less portable device. £30 won't get you anything spectacular.

Largest you can afford, you can never had enough storage. Music, videos and photos eat up storage.

you might consider the size
standard 3,5inch disks are cheaper but bigger in size, perfect for home

If you like carrying them around look for 2.5inch external drives

as said before.. the larger the capacity the better

What you must always remember is that all hard drives will fail. Maybe quite quickly, maybe not until after you've had them for several years. But they will fail eventually.

The first rule of computers is: always ensure that your Important Stuff is backed up somewhere else, as well as on your external hard disk. Perhaps also on writeable DVD(s), perhaps also on USB Flash drive(s).

buy two of the same drives, make two copies and bury one in the garden until the first one fails

At least three problems with that idea:

1. If you buy two of the same drives at the same time, they may well be part of the same batch, and so both may fail at roughly the same time (whenever that should be)
2. Is RachaelJ never going to need to back up more than once?
3. She's already said she has a very limited budget, so buying two hard drives would be out of the question

I think we can ignore the suggestion to bury one in the garden...
