House builders want to see valuation

Hello,

We're buying a new build and we're very near exchange. Today I received a phone call from the sales woman who is based on the development. She says the house builder often conducts a survey relating to the valuation's carried out by buyers and could they have a copy. In this case ours was completed through Nationwide.

I have a copy of the valuation, it came through with the mortgage offer.

My question is, what possible harm can come of the house builder also having a copy of this? Its not a particularly interesting document but I'm concerned she's asking for something you would normally withhold.

You paid for it, it's yours.... ask them what they're prepared to "chuck in" if you let them see it.

They will probably use it as part of their "sales info" to persuade nervous buyers that valuations are coming in at the right values, in case any say "how do I know it'll be valued at what you say"
  • Someone might have an idea if it's a bad idea or not, but assuming it's not...

I can't think why you would hide the headline figure if it's not causing any problems, but ask them to contribute to the cost for a copy as a survey is a valuable product you have paid for and there is nothing in it for you unless you are reimbursed.
  • I can't think of any reasons why it would be a problem if you gave them a copy, but I'm sure there must be some.

Half of me thinks you should probably give them a copy so they would be more likely to respond quickly to your inevitable snagging and problem requests.
  • If they want to contribute to the cost of the valuation (50% ?), then they can have a copy. Why should they get a copy of it for free?

I tried asking them to contribute, but they refused, haha.

Oh well, it was worth a try. The woman at the sale office was a little bit stroppy when I asked "oh well if you don't want to be helpful then fine" she said! OK, I won't buy your house! Which of course I didn't say, as we want the house and its a great price :p
