But it's worth asking whether they need coathangers or not. Most seem to have matching sets, so my motley collection probably wouldn't interest them.

i woul;d check they are legit, to be honest, as there are loads of bogus door to door textile collectors, please remember that clothes given donated or sold are not given abraod they are sold abroad. they need to have a local authority license to operate door to door, and alot of them havent.

Another one to look out for apart from the bogus collectors is people going door to door for legit charities - a man called representing a well known animal charity asking for a monthly contribution, I was so close to signing up but was glad I didn't when I later read on the net that they can take something like 90% of the payments in the 1st year as a sales commision, I realise they are supporting good causes but think they should be more up front over what they take out of any of your contribution.
Theres only two rules to remember
    1) Im always right
    2) See rule 1
  • I work for a very small charity (only 2 shops) and we would never refuse donations, and we are extremely grateful for any donations we receive. Where we are nearly everyone seems to donate to the larger well known charity's and we find it quite hard to get donations through the door. I can't believe some of the staff open your donations in front of you and say 'we can't sell that' that is ridiculous and very ungrateful. obviously we get donations that we can't sell, stained/bobbly clothes etc but we rag them and get money back for doing so.
