child benefit and housing benefit

i have read that child benefit is being disregarded for housing benefit in october 2009. we get some help with housing benefit and i was wondering if we have to apply for this or if it is done automaticaly.

i read this on a daily telegraph website

  • Hi Julie, I am not sure if it is automatic so it would be advisable to contact your LA to find out.
  • AFAIK it should be done automatically if you already have a claim in progress, but if you are not currently getting CTB and the CB disregard will mean that you ARE entitled to some CTB, then you will need to apply for this again.
  • hi

i know with the hb dept i work for we are doing the disregard automatically

i imagine this should be the same for yours. Most systems that hb departments are using will have a computer release to disregard these costs from oct

you could always double check if you want :)

I'm sure I read yesterday that they've delayed the disregard until November. Has anyone heard this too?

The disregard has been delayed until November to coincide with the change in capital disregards for pensioners.

The change will be computerised, you won't need to ask

Thanks. Thought I had read in Inside Housing or Legal Action Guide but couldn't remember off the top of my head.
