Hiya i really struggle too, and a tip a good friend of mine gave me :D
go to a shop like debenhams or somewhere similar, go in your smartest of course i can afford to shop here clothes.

tell them you need some tips like a personal style make over as your darling hubby/daughter/mother are treating you for christmas but you sooo need to update your style and have no clue

the nice style lady personal shopper will help you find your look - smile sweetly with a please can you write down or give me a catalogue or even photo you in said outfit so you can make sure the generous lovely relative can get the right colour etc...

I went with a confident friend to house of fraser and had a fab time (im sure she knew really i wans tshopping but my friend did) I got more ideas of what suited me for colour and looka tried on things id never go near...we then did all the cosmetic counters in the big shops saying we howmuch my skin had changed and didnt know what to do any more - got ots of samples too

thne with your new knowledge go shop somewhere cheaper like tesco's with a netter idea.

worth a shot - would do it onmy own but if like me you have a far more confident dare devil as a friend use them. we were ladies what lunched for a day had a fab time and spent less than a fiver

here is a link i found with personal shopper at high street stores guide..

Feel the fear and do it anyway!

  • Bethankim what a good idea, don't know if I would have the guts to do it on my own, but then with christmas fast approaching it wouldn't sound too far off the possible truth! Might be brave and give it a go, as I know personal shoppers have been recommended a few times on other posts.

Bronnie thats another good idea -will defo have a look.

Hi strawberryberry, the dress i saw was in black and it had a v neck and was shaped under the bust. It had 3/4length sleeves, im not sure what other colours they came in tho. Im 44 and am also trying to look more fashionable without looking muttony or frumpy lol. I did try the jeggings but i decided that ide rather stick to skinny jeans that i can tuck into my knee lentgh boots. I bought a 3pairs of leggings, 1black, 1brown and 1 grey and ive matched them with more floaty tops from M&S and Red Herring. I found a jumper in Jane Norman and i want to, but the only problem is it doesnt cover all of my bum. I am 5ft 2" and size 8 to 10 and the only thing i could come up with to resolve this was maybe to buy a long length vest type top in brown so it will fit over my bum and then it wont matter if the jumpers a bit short. But ive been everywhere today to find one and i can find all the colours under the rainbow except chocolate brown. As im small i like to keep to the same colour top as the bottom then
i dont feel im cut in half. The jumper is brown and beige. Does anyone know where i can find a longer length vest top in brown like the ones that topshop have? preferably with lycra so its stretchy but with no sleeves but either string straps or just like a vest.
