Boiler Breakdown / Repairs advice

Options
Hi,

I bought a property last year with a boiler of about 10 yrs age. It's a worcester combi boiler. Last year it broke down a few times but was easily repaird by a local guy who forgot to bill me. At the time he said he'd quote e for a new one as it could do with replacement (bet they all say that!).

Now it has ground to a halt again. I can't afford costly repairs and calling out an engineer seems a minefield. I'd like to keep it running for one more winter then save for a new one next year.

Any general advice on who best to call on to investigate? I'm scared of being ripped off. British Gas seem to do a fixed price one off call out and repair for £168. This is affordable. How can they guarantee this?

I'm with Npower currently. Are there any schemes out there for boiler replacement whereby they can replace and ad the cost to your monthly bill over a period - say 1/2 years?

Many thanks

get the local guy in again and ask if you can pay him for the other repairs he did previously

That cost covers 1 completed repair it does not cover the repair of the boiler if there is more than one fault.

  • thanks for the advice guys.

Is there any canny way of paying for a new boiler by installment through a supplier (other than sticking it on a 0% card or loan)?

Try calling Worcester Bosch direct, they do a one off repair for about £200 and it includes parts and labour with a 12 month guarantee.

I'm not sure if they will accept to work on a 10 year old boiler but it's worth asking.

A lot of ebery suppliers will offer to spread the cost of the repayments in the same way as you wouold with a loan - they do charge interest though so better with a )% card iof you can pay it off in the period
