greengrocers

Options
1st off, sorry I haven't been in for a while, been busy!

Anyway, where are all the greegrocers?

I live in Southend on sea.

Near where I live are a big Tesco that they are expanding  & my walking distance shop is a morrisons.

Fruit & veg are dreadful in morrisons & I when I can face going into Tesco the fruit & veg isn't much better.

Further driving distance I have Sainsburys which is hit & miss with the veg.

All the stuff is imported.

I;ve recently got my 'grown in the UK' head on. I know, I know, its taken me 32 years...

TBH, I have never noticed the lack of them. So in Southend town centre, there are no greengrocers. There is a sainsbury, Iceland & a newly opened Tesco express. The veg in there was horrific

So went to Rayleigh. The town the other sode of me. There is a Somerfield there. No greengrocer either.

Thinking of places I regularly visit, I cannot think of any greengrocers.

I am shocked!

How much would it cost to open my own shop?! ;)

Do you all have lovely greengrocers? Is it cos I am in Sarfend, we have lots of chip shops... :D

Much the same in East london im afriad.

My parents were greengrocers in the 80s had a very successful business selling to the public, and to gourmet hotels around Cheshire. About 20 years ago they packed it in saying "supermarkets are strangling us". One of the shops he used to run is now a mobile phone shop. Sad.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

We had a fantastic one not far from me but unfortunately it got bought out by a chinese guy who ran it into the ground and then closed it down :( Now I rely on the local market which is fantastic.

So how come you Nr London and London gals are moaning when every time I see a programme (real life not fiction) all I see in London are brilliant street markets selling a huge variety of fruit and veg (is this an invented backdrop?)

Our local high street has two greengrocers, a butcher, a health-food shop selling organic vegetables, a Spar, a Londis, a Somerfield, a Threshers, a Woollies, various charity shops, a plumbers merchant, a copy shop, a printers and a few restaurants. Also about 10,000 nail salons...
We used to have a fish shop, but that's gone now... haven't seen a fish shop for ages.
But fruit and veg... no problem, what do you want?! Do people in Sarfend eat fruit and veg? Is that the problem maybe? :rotfl:

this is it, its the bl00dy supermarkets. The stuff is old, shipped from Egypt/Israel/Outer Mongolia & is tasteless & goes off quick. Its very annoying.

I am going to look into organic box schemes.
