Strange message from Amazon

I have just received an email from Amazon after trying to order a book, I have only ordered three other books in the last month - and only cheap ones. Has anyone else had this problem?

Greetings from Amazon.co.uk.

We have been unable to complete your purchase from Amy Clapham. Your order
contained the following items:

1 of The Student Nurse Handbook: A Survival Guide [Paperback] by Siviter,
Bethann...

You have not been charged for the attempted purchase. We apologise for any
inconvenience this may cause.

In this case, you have exceeded your transaction limit and we cannot
complete your purchase. As a means of protecting customer accounts, we
limit the number of transactions that can be completed using Amazon
Payments.

These limits are based on a 28-day rolling calendar so you are welcome to
attempt this purchase again at a later time.

Once again, we regret any inconvenience. Thank you for shopping at
Amazon.co.uk.

I think someone else mentioned this a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, Amzon won't tell you what those transaction limits are (they claim it's a security issue). I think something's screwed up in their system, and can only suggest that you contact them, if only to find out when the rolling 28 days is up.

This is what the T & C's say

5.8 As a security measure, we may, but are not required to, impose transaction limits on some or all buyers and sellers relating to the value of any transaction or disbursement, the cumulative value of all transactions or disbursements during a period of time, or the number of transactions per day or other period of time. We will not be liable to any seller: (i) if we do not proceed with a transaction or disbursement that would exceed any limit established by us for a security reason, or (ii) if we permit a buyer to withdraw from a transaction because the Payment Service is unavailable following the commencement of a transaction.

    And

2.2 Amazon Payments sets limits on the amount and number of transactions completed through the Service during a set time period ("Velocity Limits") for both buyers and sellers. For security reasons, Amazon does not disclose Velocity Limits. Velocity Limits are different from the credit limits set by your credit/debit card issuer. When a Velocity Limit is reached, affected parties will be notified that additional transactions that are completed during the applicable time period must be settled directly between the buyer and seller and not through Amazon Payments.

I had a similar problem trying to buy a book for my daughter. Every time I tried to make a purchase I got that email in response.
I emailed Amazon several times but got no reply at all

It has since been resolved but I have no idea how or why it occurred in the first place.

  • i have ordered it today and it has gone through. So presumably the limit is 3 books every 28 days, as from what I can see that is what I have ordered.
